The long lightWith their families, under open sky

Marks in stone

The desert kept us.

We met at a trailhead off Kane Creek Road — Olivia out of water, James with a spare liter and no small talk. We walked the slickrock until the rock went red, then sat and watched the light leave. Neither of us wanted to be the first to stand up.

Six Septembers on, the desert keeps calling us back. James proposed on the mesa's western edge, at the hour the rock face holds the last light. That's where we'll stand this time — same rock, all of you beside us.

We found each other at last light. We'll marry in it. Stay for the fire.

The sun's arc

Follow the light down.

  1. Ceremony

    Sandstone Bend · The Overlook

Vows on bare rock as the light begins its slide west. Arrive by 4:30 — the walk in takes ten minutes.

  2. Cocktail Hour

    The Ledge

Ranch water, bites off the fire, and a lone steel guitar while we steal photos.

  3. Dinner

    The Cottonwoods

One long table under the cottonwoods, family-style. The rock face goes gold at 7:20.

  4. Dancing

    The Fire

Dancing under more stars than you've seen in years. Stay until the coals go quiet.

Field notes

Before the light changes.

What should I wear?

Desert formal — light fabrics, warm colors, a real layer for after dark. The vows are on bare rock, so flat shoes will thank you. The air drops fast once the sun does.

Can I bring a plus-one?

Your invitation names everyone we've saved a seat for. If something about your party looks off, write us — we'd rather fix it than have you wonder.

Are kids welcome?

We love your kids, but the overlook has real edges and the party runs late. This one is adults only.

What's the plan for weather?

September here runs dry, but if rain comes, the ranch barn is thirty steps away. Either way, we say the words.

When should I RSVP by?

By August 1, 2026, please. Seats at the long table, meals, and shuttle counts all hang on it.
